Natural Nitrous oxide sources

Together, temperate and tropical soils dominate natural nitrous oxide emissions on a global scale. In total, natural nitrous oxide sources are believed to add around 10 million tonnes of nitrous oxide-N to the atmosphere each year.

 

 

Man-made Nitrous oxide sources

Global man-made nitrous oxide emissions total about 8 million tonnes each year. Agricultural soils dominate man-made nitrous oxide emissions, with agriculture as a whole accounting for the vast majority of emissions.
